Qualifying Exams

Language Placement Exams

Language classes such as French, German, and Spanish have placement examination requirements. If you do not take the exam(s) at orientation, consult the class listings in the Schedule of Classes for the most current information on the dates, times, and locations.

Mathematics Diagnostic Test

If you plan to enroll in Math 1 – Pre-Calculus, Math 3A – Calculus for Life Science Students, or Math 31A – Calculus and Analytic Geometry, you must pass the Mathematics Diagnostic Test. If you plan to attend an Orientation session, you can sign up to take this test when you reserve your session date. Please contact the Mathematics department for more information about the test.

Music Theory Placement Exam

Students admitted to the Music or Music History majors must take the Music Theory Placement Exam. These exams are offered during the freshman orientation sessions. Students should also set up an appointment with a counselor in the Department of Music before they enroll in classes.
