New Student Checklist: Freshmen

Fall Quarter 2012

The transition from high school to college will be smoother if you make thoughtful and timely decisions about housing, orientation, and other programs. This checklist will guide you through the process.

Step 1: Accept admission, apply for honors and housing [March-April]

Step 2: Plan for New Student Orientation, supply needed information [May-July]

Report changes in your high school academic record or mailing address
as needed, before the end of your last pre-UCLA class
Sign up for New Student Orientation - signups begin: May 7, 2012
Review the Hepatitis B Requirement [students age 18 or younger] May 7, 2012
Send your Confidential Financial Statement [international students only, F-1 and J-1 visas]
beginning April 2, 2012
Take the Analytical Writing Placement Examination May 12, 2012
Apply for your BruinCard June 7, 2012
Send us official high school transcripts and test scores July 15, 2012
Complete the online course, AlcoholEdu for College July 16, 2012
Apply for parking July 20, 2012

Step 3: Attend New Student Orientation, enroll in classes [July-September]

Complete your Educational Planner [available now] before Orientation
Take placement exams [language, math diagnostic, music theory] at Orientation
Enroll in your Fall 2012 classes at Orientation
Get your first UCLA Degree Audit at Orientation

Step 4: Prepare for classes [September]

Pay tuition and other fees September 20, 2012
Enroll in or waive UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) September 20, 2012
Submit final Hepatitis B information [students age 18 or younger] September 20, 2012
Fall quarter classes begin September 24, 2012
