• one course in mineralogy-lithology
• one course in optical mineralogy-petrography
• one course in geologic maps
• one year of general chemistry with lab
• two years of calculus through linear algebra
• one and one-half years of calculus-based physics with lab
• one introductory computer programming course (Fortran of C++)
