Linguistics majors

All linguistics subject area majors must complete the following:

one course in introduction to linguistics
two years of one foreign language
Note: Applicants must complete a minimum of one year (two semesters/three quarters) of college-level courses in one of the selected language to be considered for admission. Completion of intermediate/advanced courses is strongly preferred. Completion of at least one year of high school in which the primary language of instruction was the selected language may be substituted for lower division language preparation.

one course of a second language
(At least one year must be in a language other than those in the Romance, Slavic, or Germanic families.)
a choice of two of the following:
- one course in symbolic logic
- one course in introductory psychology
- one course in sociocultural anthropology

one year of a second language
(At least one year must be in a language other than those in the Romance, Slavic, or Germanic families.)
strongly recommended: one course in anthropology (culture and communication)

Note: Linguistics and Computer Science majors may complete one year each in two foreign languages instead of two years of one.

two introductory courses in Western philosophy, political philosophy, philosophy of mind, or skepticism and rationality
